GAY'ES TAKE ON ARRESTS OF CIGARETTE SMUGGLERS (Wednesday, August 4, 2010 / 6:08 PM)

Reading this about cigarette smugglers in Singapore doesn't surprise me as much as it used to.
I'm glad they were arrested and that the contraband cigarettes were being seized.
But the problem of smuggling cigarettes still persists in Singapore, from what i know.
Maybe something more could be done to prevent this, not that i can think of any at this point in time.
Tighter security would definitely help alot in catching these illegal smugglers.
Or maybe a harsher punishment would 'scare' smugglers and cause them to quit being in that kind of job.
Some of these cigarette smugglers probably find it hard to find a proper job or maybe they think they do not have the expertise/skills to get a proper job because Singapore is advancing so much that every job now probably has a certain education standard or qualification to reach.
Apart from being a cleaner or dish washer.

Cigarette smuggling can generate alot of money as it requires risks and sellers probably think of it as quick and fast cash.
Councillors could provide help for these people who are caught and encourage them to get a proper job. Or put them under a job probation.
