GAYLE'S TAKE ON CYBER WELLNESS PROJECT (Wednesday, August 4, 2010 / 9:11 PM)

I fully support this call for cyber wellness projects and its proposal. I think it would also be good for the public to put their creativity to good use and create some practical ideas to raise cyber awareness.
As activities such as cyber bullying, addiction to online games/pornography, uploading of sex videos/nude photos of oneself is on the rise,
there is a need for something to be done and ICSC has proposed this
which i think its absolutely practical.
Technology is fast and ever advancing. It's also useful and helps us in our daily lives conveniently.
However, when misused, can cause danger and much harm.
Young people may not have the wisdom or 'sight' to foresee what their actions might lead them into.
They may not be aware of the real future consequences of their actions and continue with the way they are presently.
People must be aware of the seriousness of activities like cyber bullying.
More than a handful of cyber bullying cases have turned into cases of suicide (death).
Young/middle aged people who are addicted to online games or pornography may not realise what they are getting themselves into.
And youngsters need to realise the consequences of uploading their sex videos or nude photos of themselves online.

Thus i think the ICSC's call for cyber wellness is a good way to raise awareness of the pros and cons of technology.
This year is the second time this cyber wellness proposal has been ongoing.
i certainly hope that this year's response will be better than the last and that Singapore will put their creative juices into good use like conveying a message about cyber wellness.
I'm glad the government realised the need for projects such as this and decided to support it financially.
It's not going to be easy dealing with the issue of cyber wellness because it ultimately boils down to the individual.
But i'm pleased that despite the difficulties and the possibilities of failure in the projects (depends on response), that the ICSC have decided to go on with the proposal (:
