Desiree's take on soccer? (Friday, June 11, 2010 / 2:07 PM)

First and foremost, I need to do a disclaimer- that I know zilch about football.

The Barcelona coach had accused the referee of lying (putting words into the coach's mouth) to justify why he was sent to the stands. He was fined as the Spanish football federation did not find any evidence from Guardiola's accusation.

In this case, there was no match fixing involved.

Sometimes when I accidentally tune in to the football channel, I see some guy in a formal suit (which I reckon is the team's coach) shouting with all his might, along with exaggerated hand gestures at the players. As if the football players can hear his shoutings and it helps to score a goal out of it. I also see no point in a coach confronting the referee of some unfairness in some matches. How often do you see the referee change his decision on the spot just because the coach intervened?
