Jiayi's view about Stamping Out Drain Litter (Wednesday, May 19, 2010 / 10:17 PM)

I feel that each and every Singaporeans have a part to play in maintaining the cleanliness of Singapore. The main reason that they dump their rubbish into the drain could be that it is convenient to them and that they want to get rid of the rubbish quickly. But they should be made aware that each litter that they dump into the drain will end up in any reservoir and this will eventually pollute the water and environment. PUB will also have to spend millions to clean up these litters. This amount can be spent on improving other areas of Singapore, so why waste it on cleaning up the rubbish dump by our own people?

Although the campaign implemented will not work instantly, but as time passes, more and more people will get to know about the campaign since the
colourful campaign stickers are placed across Singapore. However, in order to let more people be aware of this situation, the campaigns held should involve the participation of the public, like the art competition. When they are involve, they will get to know more about the situation and how critical it is and can lead to. Hence, they will make an effort to stop littering in the drains and also help to spread the message around. If everyone plays a little part in maintaining the drains free from litter, I am sure that Singapore will be a clean and green city.
